Flatbed Trailers For Sale

Flatbed Trailers For Sale

Flatbed trailers are the simplest, most flexible way to haul oversized and irregular cargo — lumber, steel, machinery, pallets, and anything that will not fit inside an enclosed trailer. At Prime Trail Trailers we stock open flatbed and deckover trailers from 14 to 30 feet with tandem and triple axles, stake pockets, and flat or dovetail decks.

A flatbed trailer lets you load from the sides, top, and rear — no walls to work around. Our flatbed trailers feature steel or wood decks, stake pockets and rub rails for strapping, heavy-duty axles with electric brakes, and a low deck height for easy loading. Whether you are hauling building materials, machinery, or oversized freight, a flatbed from Prime Trail is built to strap down and roll.

How to Choose a Flatbed Trailer

Expert guidance to help you make the right choice.

Flatbed trailers come in two deck styles: between-the-fenders (lower deck, but fenders limit load width) and deckover (deck above the fenders, full width with no obstruction). A between-the-fenders flatbed is lower to the ground, making it easier to load machinery and materials. A deckover flatbed gives you the full 102-inch deck width with no fenders to work around — ideal for wide loads like building materials and pallets.

The deck surface determines durability and maintenance. Steel diamond plate is the most durable — it handles heavy, sharp loads without damage and lasts decades, but it rusts if not maintained. Steel mesh is lighter and drains water, but it can dent under point loads. Treated wood is quiet, will not rust, and is easy to replace, but it can rot if not sealed. For construction and machinery, steel is standard; for general hauling, wood works well.

Stake pockets and rub rails are essential for securing cargo on a flatbed. Stake pockets let you install sides or stakes for containing loose materials. Rub rails run along the deck edge and provide anchor points for straps and chains. Make sure the flatbed has enough stake pockets (typically every 24–36 inches) and that the rub rails are welded, not bolted. A flatbed without good tie-down points is dangerous and non-compliant with DOT load securement rules.

Key Considerations

  • Between-the-fenders for low loading; deckover for full-width loads
  • Steel decks are most durable; wood is quieter and rust-proof; mesh drains well
  • Stake pockets every 24–36 inches and welded rub rails for secure strapping
  • Tandem 7,000–10,000 lb axles with electric brakes handle most flatbed loads
  • A dovetail or ramps are needed for machinery loading — flat decks are harder to load
  • Gooseneck flatbeds handle heavier loads and tow more stable than bumper pull

Why Buy From Prime Trail Trailers?

We sell flatbed trailers with decks and frames rated for real loads — not light-duty flatbeds that flex under weight. Our flatbeds use structural steel frames, full-length crossmembers, and stake pockets positioned for secure strapping. We help you choose between a flat deck, dovetail, or deckover based on what you haul.
